Mass. auditor faults Dept. of Youth Services
BOSTON -- State Auditor Joe DeNucci says the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services has "serious flaws" in its computer system security.
According to a recent audit, the department's computer system doesn't have the ability to track clients nor provide staff with clients' critical medical information. The audit also found that many users of the system do not change passwords for security.
In addition, DeNucci says the DYS failed to notify the auditor's office of the theft of 58 laptop computers.
A spokeswoman for the department says it is fully cooperating with the audit and has already taken action to correct some of the problems. The DYS serves about 7,000 at-risk youth each year.
